How many continuing education hours are needed to sustain my WI license?
Veterinarians, 30 hours need to be completed each biennial renewal period
Technicians, 15 hours need to be completed each biennial renewal period
How long is a CE hour?
In Wisconsin, a CE hour is 50 contact minutes.
How do I prove I have the hours and how long do I need to keep the proof?
The UW School of Veterinary Medicine will provide you with a certificate when you complete any online program or in-person conference. Documentation must be kept for five years from the date the certification
statement is signed (VE 10.02(8)).
If documentation from one of the UW School of Veternary Medicine Continuing Education programs is lost would they provide proof of attendance?
YES! The UW-SVM will keep the documentation for up to 7 years following a conference or online program and will mail the appropriate paperwork to you upon request.
What if I am licensed in a state other than Wisconsin, does the UW School of Veterinary Medicine online programs and in-person conferences count towards my continuing education hours?
The UW School of Veterinary Medicine is an accredited University for veterinary medicine and is recognized
in all 50 states as an approved continuing veterinary medical education provider. However, if you have questions about a specific program, it is recommended that you check with your state’s licensing board for final verification.
